News Update December 2020
Great news Saturday night when the Yorkshire Park bred Drain The Swamp duly saluted in the Benstud 2YO Youthful Stakes of $24,000 in 1.54.6 driven by trainer Michael Stanley. The Somebeachsomewhere x Vicky Murphy gelding led from the mobile and gave nothing else a chance winning by 4.7 metres in impressive fashion. He performed well in the Breeders Crown series but really found his best when winning Saturday night. That makes it 11 starts for 2 wins, 3 seconds and a third placing with prize money ticking over $30,000. Keep a look out for his three quarter brother by Sunshine Beach in the Nutrien Standardbred Equine yearling sales in April.
Azterian, Glenavril King & Drain The Swamp all made the Semi Finals of the Vicbred Super Series but all failed to qualify for the Group 1 finals. On a positive note Maestro qualified for the 2 YO Trotting Colts Group 1 Final with a nice 3rd in his heat but unfortunately his task has been made difficult by drawing barrier 11 in the final.
Great to see one of our old favourites Aitutaki win at Devonport on Tuesday night which made it win number 9 and almost $50K in prize money. To date Yorkshire Park has bred or raced 23 winners for the 2020 year until 29 December with our initial target of 24 wins for the year. With a bit of luck we will pick up the last win before the year is out.
On the breeding scene we were delighted when Watch The Dream produced a colt by Sweet Lou earlier in December with all being well. La Tonneralla has had a 42 day positive test to Pastor Stephen and we await results for Sixty Plus (Speeding Spur), Masterkova (Poster Boy) & Watch The Dream (Vincent) over the coming weeks.
Yorkshire Park would like to wish everyone a Merry and Safe Xmas and a prosperous New Year.
That’s about all for now.
Stay safe
Yorkshire Park team.
