Great to be back from a successful trip to New Zealand which was an action packed week of the PGG Wrightson Christchurch yearling sales, visits to Bromac Lodge, Roydon Lodge and to the training complexes of Michael House at Christchurch and John Hay at Ashburton. Topped off with a night at Addington Trots on the Friday night and also took in a bit of the World Cup Cricket.
On the sales front we were able to successfully purchase Lot 251 a black filly, I Can Dream by USA Breeders Crown winner If I Can Dream (by Western Hanover, a full brother to Western Terror) out of a 14 win and 1.57.9 mare Ella Sue who won over $100,000 in her racing career. A strong looking filly who presented well at the sales we were able to purchase her on the back of not a lot of her sires progeny on the ground in NZ or Australia. A successful sire in North America his oldest progeny are 3YO’s and has already left 15 winners in 1.55.0. She will join our other filly 3 Y O Changeover, Whitney H at John Hay’s stables at Ashburton.
On Sunday we ventured to Melton for the Australian Premier Trotting Sale with our only entry in the sale being a Sundon Colt out of the NZ mare La Tonneralla a half sister to two NZ Derby winners. He was Lot 25 in the sale and sold to Paddy Lee for $15,000 and we wish Paddy all the very best with him. A big thank you to Kath McIntosh for preparing him for the sale, she did a fantastic job and he looked terrific.
Watch The Dream returns to the race track next Tuesday 17th March in Race 4 drawing barrier number 2 in a C1 race at Menangle. Lets hope we can return to the winners circle after a really promising run in the NSW Oaks heats. Whitney H continues her training campaign without incident to date in NZ showing no signs of the injury that forced her to the paddock for three months. Our new purchase is breaking in well in NZ (I Can Dream) under the guidance of John Hay so we are looking forward to the next steps with her.
We currently have three horses at the breakers, an Art Major filly, Roll With Joe filly and a Mr. Feelgood gelding. All are progressing well at this stage. We still have a couple more to go, a Major In Art filly and a For A Reason filly who hopefully head to the breakers in the next month or so.
It has been a very busy time recently and now our focus will turn to weaning this years foals in the next couple of months or so.
Look forward to touching base with the next update.
Good luck.
