News, News, News – March, 2016.
Plenty of work to be done at the moment as we prepare to relocate Yorkshire Park to our new property in Kyneton over the coming months. This will give us the opportunity to have everything in the one location which will work out well in the longer term.
Great news on the recovery of Whitney H as she has now had her bandages removed and out in a smaller paddock as she continues to do well under the care of Alistair and Elizabeth McLean. All looks to have gone extremely well with the operation for a fractured pastern and we will continue to monitor her progress over the next 3 months. We are very grateful for the care she has been receiving which has made the recovery process so much better.
Our Major In Art yearling colt is progressing well under the guidance of Mal Whitford who is breaking him in for us. Mal reports that the horse has a great temperament and manners and will be easy to train. Today he went into the cart for the first time with no major dramas. Sammy as we call him is for sale so any one interested should contact Yorkshire Park to arrange an inspection or to drive the colt.
Our For A Reason 2 YO filly is also coming along well under the guidance of Paul Campbell at Maiden Gully. This is a pleasing result to date given she had a few issues with her back in the early stages. This filly will also be on the market but we want to make sure she is 100% ok before progressing to a sale stage.
Update on the Racing Scene:
Watch The Dream continues on her racing campaign with a promising 3rd on Tuesday 1st March at Menangle in a heat of the City Trainers series with the $20,000 final being contested on the 11th March, 2016. From barrier three Dreamy worked into a good position behind the leader before getting clear with about 80 metres to go and finishing off in a 27.0 quarter in an overall mile rate of 1.55.0 beaten 5 metres. We will certainly be looking for a good draw in the final and a bit of luck to go with it next Friday week.
Good to see Social Fireball back at the track with a good third recently at Maryborough in a heat of the Need For Speed series. This coming Thursday night she will contest the semi final at Bendigo over a mile drawing well in gate two and hopefully can find her way on the 12th March, 2016.
Update on Broodmares:
Not a lot to report on the broodmare scene other than Jewell Bromac missing getting in foal this season. We will now concentrate on getting her back in foal early next season along with Lombo Socialite who also missed this year. Next step will be the process of weaning the foals off the mares in early April. This is always a good time for some early education for the foals.
Our Sundon mare Sixty plus will be returning to Australia in a fortnight following confirmation that she is in foal to Majestic Son. We look forward to having her back in Australia.
PGG Wrightson NZ Yearling Sales Results:
Last Saturday I returned home from a week in New Zealand attending the PGG Wrightson yearling sales in Christchurch. Once again it was a good trip on all fronts with Yorkshire Park picking up a filly by Roll With Joe out of the Group One winning mare Turkana. Named “I’m So Lucky” the filly presented really well and we look forward to her being broken in under the guidance of John Hay at Ashburton NZ.
Yorkshire Park also purchase another filly by Mach Three out of Caitlin Banner a sister to the very good Group One winning mare Mainland Banner which has been on sold to new owners based in NZ and to be trained by Nathan Williamson at Invercargill.
A big congratulations to the breeders in New Zealand for the way in which they present their horses for sale and also to PGG Wrightson for the continued excellence in the sales process.
That’s about it for now.
Good luck and good punting.
Talk soon.
Yorkshire Park team.
