News Update February 2020
The APG Yearling sales in Melbourne proved to be a tough gig for breeders as a number of lots were passed in and plenty of bargains available for buyers. Once again the preparers did a terrific job and presented all the yearlings in first class order.
For Yorkshire Park it was a mixed sale with both lots initially passed in before we managed to secure the sale of our Sportswriter x Watch The Dream filly, Lot 60 for $25,000. The filly will head to the Mark Watson stable at Kyabram and I’m pleased to say Yorkshire Park will retain and interest in the filly. Our Well Said x Vickymurphy filly, Lot 53 was passed in and we are still fielding inquiries from potential buyers at present.
There is no doubt that a review of the APG sale process needs to take place in order to build the confidence of buyers and breeders for future sales.
On the racing scene a couple of our yearlings (now 2YO’s) from last year have been named or have already graced the trials and qualified to race. Most notably the Somebeachsomewhere out of Vickymurphy colt sold to the Michael Stanley stable qualified at Melton today (11/2) finishing second beaten a metre in 1.57.8 working home in a 55.8 for the last half. Named Drain The Swamp the big fella performed really well and he is in good hands with the Michael Stanley stable. We expect to see him at the races shortly.
Our Village Jolt filly out of Ima Ritzi lombo leased to the Cranbourne Club 21 syndicate has been named, Classy Countess, and we expect she will be at the trials shortly. Syzate by Heston Blue Chip out of My Little Black Dress has also qualified and we look forward to seeing her at the track in the near future.
Yorkshire Park bred Hancocks Hero graced the winners circle again last week, win number 4, as the Alta Christiano gelding continues to be a model of consistency. Glenavril King finished a close second last week and a win is in store for him just around the corner. Rocking Bugatti also continues to be a model of consistency with two recent seconds and he will line up at Bendigo on the 13 February.
Yorkshire Park owned Lutetia Midfrew looks an absolute treat in the care of Adrian Duggan and no doubt she will look to improve on her winning record.
This week I will be heading to the NZ yearling sales in Auckland and Christchurch which will also include a visit to Woodlands Stud. I really look forward to seeing this years crop of yearlings from both islands as we enjoy the hospitality of our kiwi counterparts.
That’s about all for now and I look forward to giving you an update on the NZ sales.
