News Update 24 January:
Lutetia Midfrew makes her return to the race track on Monday night at Melton drawing barrier 5 over 1720 metre trip. Her trial form has been good and we hope that she can make an impression on Monday night.
News, News, News:
After a short break and a fantastic Xmas and New Year we are back with the Yorkshire Park monthly update for January.
Lots happening but we should start on the breeding scene with Jewel Bromac delivering a filly on the 21st December by Western Terror which rounds out this years foaling. Three mares foaled for three fillies by Well Said, Sportswriter and Western Terror. All mares and foals are doing well and we look forward to what the future holds for them.
Good news also with Our Narissa Franco confirmed in foal to Tintin In America, Ima Ritzi Lombo in foal to Yankee Rockstar and La Tonneralla in foal to Used To Me via embryo transfer into another mare. Watch The Dream has a 30 day positive to Art Major and we will know this week if we have a positive for Vickymurphy hopefully in foal to Sunshine Beach.
On the racing scene Lutetia Midfrew returned to the trials last week at Melton with a nice 2nd and will follow up with another trial this Tuesday (15th) at Melton again. Hopefully she will head to the races following this trial. Alta Mach has gone to the paddock for a spell after a mixed return to the racetrack following injury. She just didn’t quite come back as we had hoped so a decision was made to send her to the paddock for three months. Our Village Jolt yearling filly (Tess) has been to the breakers and spent another fortnight with Graham Lyon at Kyabram and I’m extremely pleased with the way she has progressed. She returned to Yorkshire Park today for a six week let up before heading back into training. Recently we syndicated our Rock N Roll Heaven two year old and retained 20% in the filly who is being trained by Chris Svanosio. She headed to the work outs at Bendigo this morning and acquitted herself well in the work out. We are very happy with her progression to date and the syndicate is in the process of naming her before she heads to the trials.
Great to see one of our early horses bred by Yorkshire Park win at Scottsdale on Friday. Aitutaki won convincingly by 13 metres and made it win number six for the Ponder gelding. A big well done to all involved. Go Home Jo (Roll With Joe x Ima Ritzi Lombo) has been terrific recently and continues to run placings in good fields. I think a win is just around the corner for the mare. Artful Christian has returned from a spell and continues to perform well. With a little luck a win is just around the corner for this bloke.
The APG Melbourne yearling sales are fast approaching and on Friday our Somebeachsomewhere colt out of Vickymurphy Lot 146 had his photos and video filmed. Keep an eye out for this bloke at the sales as he is a really nice type and we hope that he sells well. Yearling sale time is very exciting and we look forward to a positive sale with lots of potential owners attending.
Fantastic to attend the Bendigo Pacing Cup meeting on Saturday 5 January with the two feature events providing a terrific spectacle. The Aldebaran Park Maori Mile Group One provided another major win for Tornado Valley the reigning Interdominion Champion in a quick time of 1.54.1 just outside the track record. His blistering speed allowed him to go to the lead from the outside gate before holding off Save Our Pennys in a driving finish. Congratulations to Kate & Andy Gath on a fine driving and training performance and we look forward to see if Tornado Valley heads overseas in the near future to take on the European or North American horses.
San Carlo provided a tough performance to win the Bendigo Pacing Cup Group 2 in track record time of 1.55.4 in a three way finish beating Let It Ride and Stroke Of Luck in a thrilling cup. Its a great time of the year with the Country Cups featuring many of the very good horses with top quality racing. This Saturday night we will head to the Ballarat Cup and look forward to an exciting night of racing with the Group One Cup and Victoria Derby Heats.
That’s about it for now but we certainly look forward to the coming weeks with great enthusiasm.
