Yorkshire Park is pleased to provide you with an update on what is happening in the breeding barn and on the race track as we return from a well earned break over the Xmas and New Year period. Time certainly moves on as it only seems the other day that we were preparing for the Xmas break.
On the racing side Cavalier Christian and our Major In Art 2 year old have both gone to the paddock for a spell for a couple months following their campaigns. It would be fair to say that Cavalier Christian has been a bit of a challenge for trainer Paul Campbell after qualifying at the trials he managed to do a few things wrong so off to the paddock for a short let up for him. Our Major In Art 2 year old progressed quite well in his second preparation and under the care of Graham Lyon it was decided to give him a let up before really putting him to the test. Whitney H trained by John Hay in New Zealand returned to work after injury and to date is progressing on track. The 3 year old Changeover filly qualified in her last preparation before injury and we are hopeful that this time around we will be off to the races.
Watch The Dream returned to the racetrack at Bankstown last week after really good performances in the Group 2 Chokin 3 Year Old series in late November but was a little disappointing starting favourite and missing a place. She really didn’t handle the Bankstown track and trainer Shane Tritton reported that she was not in the best of moods on the night. She returns to the bigger Menangle track on Friday in a tough race drawing barrier eight in what will be a difficult task against a good field.
On the breeding side I’m pleased to report that Our Suicide Blonde presented us with a filly by Lincoln Royal on the 30th December which was the last of our mares to foal for the season. The end result on the breeding front was three colts (by Somebeachsomewhere, Major In Art & Smiling Shard) and three fillies (by Falcon Seelster, Auckland Reactor and Lincoln Royal) which was a good result all round. I’m also pleased to report that the majority of our mares going back to stud have been confirmed in foal and we await the final two mares test to confirm their position.
Our first four yearling fillies being prepared for the Melbourne APG Yearling sales at Oaklands Junction on the 1st February are progressing well and I’m pleased to say they have already attracted some interest from perspective buyers. It is an exciting and nerve wracking time as we head to the sales with some optimism and hope. To check out the pedigrees head to www.apgold.com.au and look for the yearlings presented by Yorkshire Park. We will also be adding photos to our web site in the next week or so.
We have also booked our trip to New Zealand for the Christchurch PGG Wrightson yearling sales in February and will take in the races at Addington combined with a couple of stud visitations. It will be a fantastic opportunity again to learn how the New Zealand studs prepare and present their yearlings for the sales.
Don’t forget also we have a filly in the Sydney APG Yearling sales by For A Reason on the 28th February followed by our trotting colt by Sundon in the Australian Premier Trotting Sale on the 8th March, 2015 at Melton.
Good luck from the team at Yorkshire Park.
