Once again the year has just gone really quickly as Yorkshire Park has now settled into our new property at Carlsruhe. While there is always something to be done it is very exciting to mould a property into what best suits your breeding processes and take stock of what needs to be done going forward. It is great to see plenty of water and feed around and the horses doing really well in a great environment.
On the racing scene Watch The Dream returned to the race track last week with a solid run first up beaten 11 metres in 1.58.0 at Shepparton over the mile. While not having a lot of luck in then last 200 metres she will take great benefit out of that run for her next start. That will be at Bendigo on Friday night drawing barrier 8 over the 1650 metres in Race 1 with a few minor gear changes to help her on her way. We are expecting an improve performance and despite drawing the inside of the second row with a bit of luck we think she will be right in it.
Stylish Icon has been back in work for about three weeks now and we will watch her progression with interest. Talking to trainer Paul Campbell he is happy with her condition and she has a great attitude to her work. We will see her work load increase over the next week or two. The For A Reason 3 year old should be at the race track in a month or so.
I Can Dream has been to the work outs and trials in New Zealand recently and despite fairing ok finishing 3rd at the work outs didn’t cover herself in glory with a disappointing trial at Ashburton last week. A decision on her racing future will be decided shortly with the option of the breeding barn the most likely path travelled.
A new addition to the Yorkshire Park team from New Zealand is the Bettors Delight 3 Year Old filly Whosashadylady who arrived in Sydney last Friday and headed straight to the Amanda Turnbull stable at Bathurst. Out of the mare Nightshade Franco she is closely related to Nike Franco and a half sister to the 8 times winning colt Regal Nightshade 1.54.1. Having been to the races on two occasions the filly has finished down the track in her first start and a very strong 5th at Ashburton in 1.54.0 most recently. What impressed me outside of her future breeding opportunities was her race performance at Ashburton after being three wide for a 1000 metres but still finishing on strongly recording a 1.55.0 mile rate herself. Lets hope she can grace the winners circle in the very near future.
On the breeding scene we have had two more foals since our last update with a filly by Angus Hall out of La Tonneralla and another filly by Rock N Roll Heaven out of My Little Black Dress. Both are progressing well and we are down to only one mare to foal, Sixty Plus who is in foal to Majestic Son.
Whitney H returned home to us last week and the good news is she is in foal to Art Major and she looks an absolute treat. She has settled in well at Yorkshire Park and will be joined by Lombo Socialite and Ima Ritzi Lombo soon, both of whom we are awaiting final confirmation of being in foal.
On the Yearling sales scene we have confirmed that three of our colts will be heading to the APG Yearling sales on the 5th February, 2017.
Colt by Petrock out of My Little Black Dress (half brother to All Done Up).
Colt by Courage Under Fire out of Lombo Socialite (full brother to Social Fireball).
Colt by Alta Christiano out of Ima Ritzi Lombo (half brother to Go Home Jo).
All three colts are in great condition and all out of mares who have left winners.
The other three colts will head to the APG Autumn Sale and the Australian Premier Trotting Sale on the 2nd April, 2017.
Colt by Sportswriter out of Rock Me Gently.
Colt by Auckland Reactor out of Jewel Bromac.
Trotting Colt by Majestic Son out of La Tonneralla.
All colts will be prepared by Blanche & Dean Poole who do a terrific job with the yearlings.
That’s about it for now.
Talk soon.
