What a month it has been! The big move to our new property has been a challenge but we are here and looking forward to building on the facilities we have at “Yorkshire Park at The Grove” in Carlsruhe. One thing for sure we have certainly arrived during winter with plenty of rain to greet us, the highest rainfall in 15 years according to the locals. All that aside it has provided full dams and no doubt will ensure plenty of feed in the coming months. While all our horses are yet to arrive we look forward to getting them here over the next month or so.
On the racing scene it is that time of the year. Super Sunday Breeders Crown Finals day, one of the most exciting harness racing days on the calendar with all the very best horses from both sides of the Tasman here to contest an absolutely wonderful series. And the good news is that we are represented by three fillies in the Group One races which have been bred, raised or sold by Yorkshire Park. Despite horror barrier draws it will be a very exciting day for Yorkshire Park to see the fillies strut their stuff on harness racing biggest day. So here they are:
Social Fireball – 3 YO Trotting Fillies $60,000 Breeders Crown Group One Final, Race 1 No 11 to be driven by Geoff Webster. A very talented filly who has done a few things wrong in her races of recent times. The filly by Courage Under Fire out of Lombo Socialite will need to be at her very best to figure in the finish. A Group 1 runner up as a 2YO and a Group 3 winner as a 3 YO she has ability and will need plenty to go right to overcome a smart field and a difficult barrier draw.
All Done Up – 2 YO Pacing Fillies $280,000 Breeders Crown Group One Final, Race 7 No 12 to be driven by Michael Bellman. By Mach Three out of NZ mare My Little Black Dress she is only small in stature but her run in semi finals at Bendigo last Saturday night when finishing 3rd was a terrific effort. A really tough barrier draw and again a smart field of fillies will make it tough but with the right run she might just surprise. Sold by Yorkshire Park for $7,000 at the 2014 APG Yearling Sales.
Go Home Jo – 2 YO Pacing Fillies $280,000 Breeders Crown Group One Final, Race 7 No 11 to be driven by Nathan Purdon. This Roll With Joe out of Ima Ritzi Lombo filly had no luck in the semi finals and finished of the race really well. A tough draw again here and will need a bit to go her way to figure in the finish. Sold by Yorkshire Park privately after being passed in at the 2014 APG Yearling sales.
Really pleased to report that Watch The Dream returned to the Graham Lyon stable yesterday (21st) to resume her racing campaign after a 7 week break. Stylish Icon pulled up well after her race track debut but suffered an infected hock and will return home to Yorkshire Park tomorrow for a well deserved spell. I Can Dream continues to do well in NZ under the care of John Hay and hopefully we will see her at the trials very soon.
Congratulations to the team at the Bendigo Harness Racing Club who conducted the Semi Finals of the Breeders Crown last Saturday night. It was a fantastic night, top racing on a fantastic race track, plenty of people and entertainment on the night. It was a great atmosphere and says a lot for hosting events like this in the country areas. Well done all.
That’s about it for now.
Talk soon.
