News Update April,2016

Update 19th April, 2016

During the week we had the sad news that our only filly this year out of Vickymurphy by A Rock N Roll Dance succumb to a severe infection in the stomach and bowel and unfortunately couldn’t be saved.  It all happened so quickly with no initial signs of anything being wrong but within a few hours she was in real trouble and despite the efforts of our vets we were unable to save the filly.  It’s a sad time when these type of things happen and we all feel a little down after a tough couple of days.

On a brighter note Pearlescent (Art Major – Lombo Socialite) leased to John & Maree Caldow heads back to the work outs today at Melton and hopefully we will see her at the race track very shortly.  Last night at Bendigo we also had our 2 Y O filly by For A Reason – Our Suicide Blonde who has been named “Stylish Icon” went to the work outs which is a real  milestone for this filly.  She will now head to the trials on Sunday to qualify.  This has been a real positive story given the challenges we have had with this filly an the concerns we had for her in the early stages.  To think she has progressed this far is a big win and congratulations to Paul & Maree Campbell for their persistence.

Watch The Dream has settled in well at Graham Lyon’s stable and we will see her at the races very shortly.

And finally to the owners of All Done Up who contests the 1st semi final of the APG 2YO fillies heats at Menangle on Saturday night Yorkshire Park wish you all the very best in your quest to make the final the following Saturday night.  Despite getting the horror draw of barrier 10 we hope that with a bit of luck she will get a good run in the race and look to be running on in the event.

UPDATE 10th April, 2016

All Done Up (Mach Three – My Little Black Dress) sold at the 2015 APG Yearling sales in Melbourne by Yorkshire Park duly saluted with a first start victory at Melton on Friday night (8th) in the first heat of the 2YO Fillies APG series over 1720 metres.  Taking a sit behind the leader All Done Up peeled off the back of the leader at the top of the straight to win by a head in 1.59.3 driven by Michael Bellman.  While she is not very big in size she was very impressive and will take further improvement from the run.  A well gaited and efficient pacing filly she will head to Menangle on the 23rd April to contest the semi finals of the APG series.

Watch The Dream arrived at the Graham Lyon stable on Thursday following her last run at Menangle when she led and just got run down in the straight to finish second in 1.55.5 over the mile trip.  She looks a treat and a big thank you to Shane & Lauren for the way they have looked after the mare during he stint in Sydney.

News, News, News – April, 2016.

A bit quieter time for Yorkshire Park at the moment with our 2015 foals coming along nicely and our two year olds starting to take shape under the guidance of our trainers.   Great to see our yearling Major In Art colt has found a new home having been purchased recently by Mal Whiteford.  We certainly wish the new owners all the best with him as he is a lovely colt with a real presence about him.  Mal reported that he was progressing well when he was breaking him in and liked him so much that he purchased him.  We will watch with anticipation as he progresses through his racing career.  Good luck to Mal and the team at Moama.

Planning is still coming along with the move of Yorkshire Park operations to the new Kyneton property later in July 2016.  It is a busy time organising the move but I’m really looking forward to the day when we have everything in the one spot.

Update on the Racing Scene:

Watch The Dream will have her last run for the Shane Tritton stable on Monday 4th April following a mixed return to the race track over the last month or so.  She has found it difficult to win in recent times and despite some unbelievable times the inconsistent performances have been a bit of a concern.  From all reports she looks a treat, is working well but things are not working out at the races.  Following discussions with Shane we have decided to bring her back to Victoria where she will join the Graham Lyon stable at Kyabram for a couple of months before most likely heading to the breeding barn.  Hopefully the different environment might spark her racing performances but if not then the decision becomes pretty easy.  So fingers crossed for Monday as we hope for Shane & Luaren’s sake she puts it all together to finish off with a win.

Good to see a number of our 2014 sales representatives appearing at the trials or races in recent times.  Go Home Jo (out of Ima Ritzi Lombo), All Done Up (out of My Little Black Dress) and Pearlescent (out of Lombo Socialite) all have qualified to race the most recent being All Done Up who is now in the Vince Valellonga stable who qualified at Melton recently.  Go Home Jo already placed in her two starts will trial at Menangle on Monday 4th and Pearlescent with the Caldow stable is on track for a trials return in a fortnight or so.

Yorkshire Park’s only 2YO in work at the moment a filly by For A Reason out of Our Suicide Blonde progresses well under the guidance of Paul Campbell and hopefully will grace the trials in the next three weeks or so.  I Can Dream is still in NZ and spelling but will return to the John Hay stables in two months time.

Update on Broodmares:

Not a lot to report on the broodmare scene other than Sixty Plus arriving in Australia from NZ recently and joining the broodmare band at Yorkshire Park.  In foal to Majestic Son the Sundon mare is out of a half sister to Lyell Creek and we look forward to her foals in the future.

We will shortly be weaning the first of our 2015 foals at Northern Rivers Equine Clinic under the care of Kath & Josh which is always an exciting time.  The first group will be our only filly by A Rock N Roll Dance out of Vickymurphy, and two of our colts, a Majestic Son out of La Tonneralla and an Alta Christiano out of Ima Ritzi Lombo.

Good luck and good punting.

Talk soon.
